Enabling transformation

A global initiative to build capability, capacity and connectivity of developing communities

Empowering communities

It may be hard to believe it, but half of the world’s 6 billion people live in extreme poverty.

1 billion are illiterate.
2 billion have no access to electricity.
3 billion have no access to sanitation.

In addition,

4 billion have never heard a telephone dial tone.
5 billion have absolutely no access to tertiary education.

All of them live in developing countries.

It is hard to imagine that today in the world of so many, many have no food, no water, no electricity, no schools, no universities.

Poverty grows like a cancer, undermining social and political stability, and igniting violence.

I am convinced that the eradication of poverty is the first step to creating a safer and more peaceful world; and that education is the most effective key to poverty eradication.

Knowledge is an indispensable economic resource. It empowers people and expands their range of choice. Educated people are more likely to be employed, and to remain employed. The better qualified they are, the higher their income is likely to be.

Thus, by dismantling the barriers to education and increasing access to knowledge and skills, we will be helping to create more economic winners.

To drive this initiative, the Limkokwing Foundation for Creative Excellence has established the Limkokwing Institute for Tomorrow (LIFT).

Initially, LIFT will focus its initiatives in Africa.

LIFT will work with local communities and political leaders in Africa to set up and manage Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Training Centres.

The centres will provide free training in the use of computers and creative technology in order to empower communities with 21st-century knowledge and skills that can help raise incomes.

The Limkokwing Foundation for Creative Excellence will provide a sum equivalent to RM50 million to fund the LIFT initiatives.

I invite people of goodwill and organizations who share our vision to join us as Friends of the Foundation in this mission. Together, we can make a difference.

Limkokwing Foundation for Creative Excellence

The Limkokwing Foundation for Creative Excellence was established with the mission to develop and enrich creative human capital.

It is especially concerned that many who have the ability are often unable to participate meaningfully in the economic life of their countries owning to constraints in acquiring knowledge and relevant skills.

In acknowledging this need, the Foundation has made the acquisition of education its principal task. It believes education is the most effective key to reducing poverty by unlocking doors to employment and, thus, higher income.

The Foundation provides financial support to deserving students in order to enable them to acquire the knowledge and skills that will effectively change their lives.

By empowering them to expand their choice, the Foundation aims to bring about changes that will drive transformation of the societies in which they live.

The Foundation collaborates with the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology whose campuses across the world serve as the learning centres for sponsored students.
